June 6, 2024 - Day 2 - Campbell River to Lagoon Cove
https://lagooncovemarina.com/ - 4 1/2 hours cruising

Just at Current and Race Passage, we dropped
all
the way down to 4 knots (lower even to
      2.9 knots. W
e never touched the throttles from
  leaving Campbell
River until we reached the
"blow hole" in Lagoon Cove.
Leaving Campbell River, we hit a
high of 12.9 sog knots
catching the last of the ebb tide.

Who lives here and why?
Celebrity Summit heading to Vancouver for the 5:00 am disembarkation from Alaska.

St. Aubourn - Odyssey Cruise Ship. A very
high end cruise line.

Washington State Ferry

Broken Islands and back to flat water
at the entrance to Havannah Channel.

One of our favourite stops.

An easy go from Campbell River until Kelsey Bay and then we hit 3' waves, which was not bad, but being used to flat calm, it was a good reality check.  The tides conspired against us, but that is the price to pay for not wanting to hit 6-8' standing waves with opposing tides and winds in Johnston Strait.  For those enquiring minds, Campbell River is where the tides reverse.....in the south the "flood tide" (rising) flows to the north and it reverses from Campbell River North - a flood tide heads Southward.  So as the flood tide flows southerly in Johnston Strait, and the wind is north west, they go south together and don't create those dreaded standing waves.

We will spend the night in Lagoon Cover and see where we end up!

Lagoon Cove is the central hub for moorage, fuel, and is the southern most stop in the Broughtons (for docks).  At one time, this was the first of about 10 stops in the Broughtons, but times have not been good for the Broughtons and the cruisers, as in 2024, there are only three left (unless you know someone up here! :)  The likes of Greenway Sound, Kwatsi Bay, Windsong, Pierres, Shawl Bay and Jennis Bay have now gone private and/or are being converted to "Eco" tour stops.  For many that don't like to get their anchor wet, this will deter them from coming up to this beautiful area.
