A day of rest and repair. We spend the day in town getting reprovisioned, with Gulf Island hunting down the part she requires to fix her second motor. We rent a minivan in town and do some sight seeing and shopping. On our two previous visits, we have not ventured past the tourist part of town, so it was nice to get around town to explore a bit. We went to Totem Bight where there are many Tlingit Totems and a Haida women is rebuilding a longhouse. There are more eagles than you can count in town, with them hanging out at fish cleaning troughs and fish processing plants. Opportunists to say the least!
The price of food and liquor is at least 40% less than at home but be forewarned that no-one takes Canadian money here and the banking machines do not except Credit Union debit cards for cash withdrawals. Visa/MC and American $ is what you will need to do any purchases in Ketchican. Game 3 of the Stanley Cup playoffs is playing in most of the pubs in town. It turns out to be a disappointing night for hockey!
