Kasaan is located on Prince of Wales Island, a short hop from Ketchican. Prince of Wales Island boasts the longest road networks on any of the islands – connecting the towns of Thorne Bay, Craig, Klawock, Hollis, Hydaburg and Kasaan. The day dawns bright and sunny but a brisk wind is blowing down Tongass Narrows fairly strong (20 knots).. The vhf radio weather reports starts with wave heights in most areas being between 8 to 11’. It doesn’t look promising to leave, but we attempt it anyway. A quick fuel stop before leaving ketchican – with prices being $4.39 a US gallon (@$1.00 lt) for diesel and $3.69 for gasoline. After poking our noses out, its fairly flat all the way across Clarence Straight to Kasaan Bay. Weather forecast look shot and sunny for the upcoming next few days (Hot being 70-75 degrees)
