The weather report was a bit of a mixed bag of some rain, some wind and some waves, so our original destination was Blunden Harbour (around a 3 1/2 hour run) but when we got out there, we decided to press on as far as we could. Due to Tide Change, it was getting a little rough and Cathy was not feeling all that well (a touch of sea sickness) - so we decide to anchor in Skull Cove. Well, by the time Wayne (who was waiting patiently and reading War & Peace Volume 2) waited for us to get anchored, Cathy was feeling better so it was decided we would go out and make a run for Rivers Inlet. Mike tried at least 8 times to get his anchor down, he said he felt like a dredger as we picked up logging chain, rope and enough seaweed to feed all of Japan some sushi! So it was just as well that Wayne came on the radio and told us we could press on....good way to allow Mike to save face! The ocean was not the calmest we ever saw, but it was not that rough either. I managed to get a bunch more of my quilt crocheted and we had Cathy on Whale Lookout. We saw only one grey whale and not a whole lot of anything else. 10 hours after we started, we pulled into Duncanby and noticed a whole lot of things had changed.

Duncanby is under new ownership as of Jan 1/08 and whoever he is, he has Champagne Taste and Caviar budget! Swanky---Swanky! It is now totally geared to the fly in fishing crowd and big mega yachts. Moorage off season is 1.50 ft and 1.75 high season. They did not have a power rate, but last year it was 30.00 per night. The caretaker is a really nice guy and was most anxious to fly out on his time off (3 month during the summer) to New Zealand to get married. There is really nice hottub now installed but of course it was not working yet and the bar and restaurant have been fully renovated and upgraded. Mike has decided that his new career is going to be looking after northern resorts where you stay for the 9 months in the fall/winter and get summers off. We'll see about that.
