Wayne & Cathy coming through at Slack tide in Broughton
Seal Rookery inside Broughton LagoonWayne & Cathy arrive with our son CJ on May 26th and we head out on a somewhat sunny day to continue our great adventure. They are still laughing uproariously about their antics in the first 6 days of travel. CJ has moved all his belongings over to our boat minus a bunch of liquor (I think he drank it on the way up). I will leave the eventful part of their adventures to Wayne and will post when I receive Wayne's written contribution. I fear that if I wrote a second hand accounting of their trip, I might get keelhauled for telling secrets of "What goes on the Boat, Stays on the Boat"......stay tuned for those escapades.
After listening to their trials and tribulations and of course all the laughs from Wayne, Cathy and CJ, we collectively decide that an extra day of rest at Shawl Bay is in order for Sambuca and her crew. We take them gunkholing (high speed) to Moore Bay Forestry Park and over to Broughton Lagoon for the afternoon.
Upon arriving at Moore Bay, we discover that Mr. Bear has been there and not long before us, you might say he left a steaming calling card. These forestry docks are all over the coast and usually have a dinghy dock and this particular one at Moore Bay has 2 mooring buoys in the bay. A brown bear sighting was had a few days prior by Jean & Olav (our Prawner Friends from Shawl), the calling card we saw was obviously from him.
The day is relatively clear so we head around 5 miles to Broughton Lagoon. We have hit full tidal action at the mouth of the lagoon and yours truly forgot to take pictures as she had her head buried in her lap with the dinghy going straight up through the rapids. If my eyes had of been shut any tighter, some might call me part oriental! A rather loud expletive was spoken (or yelled) from Sambuca's dinghy....something about
oh fudgewith out the fudge, and that from Cathy who wouldn't say s**t if her mouth was full of it! We were surrounded by a sea of white angry waves going at the speed of light and I was sure we were going swimming! The boys will tell you that it was fun and that we should do it again. Try telling us again how much fun it was!
A nice cruise around the lagoon and then an uneventful trip out as the tide had turned and it was calm once again. Over to Greenway Sound Marina, which is locked up solid and in quite the state of dis-repair. We wondered if it is even opening this year as the owners have had health problems.
Once outside of Greenway sound, we ran into a pod of around 50 white sided dolphins. We suspect they are protecting little ones as the large males were jumping out of the water trying to entice us away for photo opportunities from the rest of the pod. None of which turned out as there were so many and they kept us in awe and never jumped when I had the camera focused. An evening filled with cards and laughter and of course some alcohol and we set our sights in going around "Cape Sissy" (Caution) as Wayne Calls it.
