A bit of criss-cross across Fitzhugh Sound brings us past
Namu and then around the corner to Fognar Bay.
With a hally (Halibut) hole up Dean Channel and beautiful scenic bay
protected from all weather, we plunk ourselves down for a couple of days. We make our first attempt to anchor bum to
bum with Kingfisher. It worked out fine
except we think Kingfisher let out 400 feet of anchor chain in about 40 feet of
water. Guess it’s better to be safe than
sorry. Weather is sunny the first day
but a bit drizzly the second day.
Mike’s (Formerly Jim’s off of Nutting Special) secret
halibut hole did not disappoint. The halibut
fishing regulations are much lower now, size-wise, on what you can keep. While the group was out hally fishing, a
whale surprised them by popping up behind the dinghies and making quite a
racket, surprised the heck out of everyone.
A nice 35 lb. halibut is brought home and we have tempura halibut with
crab and prawn salad. What a nice way to
end the day. A bit of kayaking with
Kaarina, I know, Betty in a Kayak?? A nice
paddle around the island and no upper body movement for Betty for a day….now I
know why we don’t have a kayak.
