Cruise Ship Bomb Scare
Cruise Ship Terminal KetchikanAfter many hours of phoning around to Telus and such, we find out that our internet will be non-existent in Alaska until we arrive at Juneau, apparently Telus does not have an agreement with Alaska Communications on their data package. So even though we get very strong cell service everywhere up here, there will be no internet for us. We will deal with this when we get closer to home! For now we will be dependent on internet cafes etc, so we apologize in advance for the delays in our blog.
We arise early and walk to town, where we stop in at the “Smiling Bear” tavern for some Bloody Marys and Bloody Caesers prior to heading off to the tourist part of town. There are three large cruise ships at dock with three more enroute to fill the vacant dock space when these three pull out. It appears to be non-stop crowds for the town with a surge of 5000 – 7000 passengers doing tourist shopping and day tours. Float planes start taking off at 6:30 am for tours, submersible “Duck” boats start cruising through the marina around 8:00 am and we see guides and cruise ship passengers heading out to fish.
We get fresh groceries and cheap American booze at Safeway (such a novelty), order Chinese food down to the boat for dinner and plan our next stop.
Hey Betty and Mike,
ReplyDeleteDebbie just told me about your wild adventure. Looks like you guys are having an amazing time. Cheers, love and safe boating.
