July 1 & 2 – Barnard Harbour

The ride up from Khutze through Graham Reach, Mackay Reach and finally Whale passage was uneventful.  Binoculars pressed to my face looking for the elusive Kermode Bear.  You always hope to see one in a similar place that you saw one before, but we were not so lucky.  A performing Humback greets us in Mackay Reach and the biggest rain squall in the same area.  Its okay, didn’t want any more whale photos any ways???  L
The dock in Barnard Harbour is still there!  Bonus!  It’s a bit more weathered and spongy than in past years, but still a respite from anchoring.  The docks were left behind from West Coast Fishing Lodge back around 10 years ago and is a favourite for the locals out of Kitimat.  Lots of 20-24 footers come in at night after fishing for the day and we meet some nice young folks from Kitimat who let off fire works for July 1.  Neat in a bay with 5 boats to tied to the dock in the middle of nowhere!  Yeah for Canada Day!
