Desolation Sound (Is not Desolate)

After a restful stay at Cardero Lodge, we headed down to the not so desolate, Desolation Sound.   Spent a few days in Forbes Bay and then onto Laura Cove, where we ran into hordes of people we knew from DCYC and BYC.

We ran into Alex, Clive (CliveeeeOoh), Colin, Barndt and others in Laura Cove and travelled with them for a week. After trying to gunkhole up into Toba Inlet we stopped to smell the roses along the way.  Another stop for next time - https://www.facebook.com/homfraylodge

After a week, we went with the group into Okeover Inlet to the Laughing Oyster and spent a few fun days on the dock there.  Then on to Pender and then up to Indian Arm for a couple of weeks.

All in all a great summer and we are looking forward to another great boating season in 2015.

Port Harvey to Cardero Lodge

View of the Green Pointe Rapids
We haven't stopped here in a few years, but with new owners settled in, we were told by fellow boaters, to stop in and support the locals!  We did just that.

Great job Wayne and Ladies (who do the cooking and cleaning).  I must say, we were pleasantly delighted with the great meal we were served and how great the service was.  Although there are still some small issues with Internet, it certainly would not be a reason to stop in again.  The menu has been revamped and they make a killer pasta!!!

We highly encourage you to stop in and give them a try!

Farewell to Port Harvey

Dusk in Port Harvey
A short jaunt down Johnson Strait, we stopped into see our friends at Port Harvey.  They have faired well so far this summer and we wish them every bit of success for whats left in this glorious summer!

We did something we normally don't have time for and that is to stay for 2 nights.  We thoroughly enjoyed not cooking, lazing around on the boat and meeting some of the other boaters.  Too often, we have just enough time to wolf down some fabulous pizza at the "Red Shoe" and we're off somewhere on a schedule.  Well, since the kids changed their vacation time by one week (for good reason)we were in no rush to head back to Vancouver.

See you again next year or at the Boat Show!

Farewell Harbour - 5 Days

View from our First Bay in around the
corner from Farewell Harbour

Glorious Sunsets/Sunrises in our new anchorage
With Fishing still on the mind, we stayed a full 5 days in Farewell Harbour in various spots surrounding this exposed bay.  Well, if the truth be known, we couldn't get a good set on our anchor and there were too many large boats in this bay already that had our anchor let go, it would have been 1-800 Carson (we have an insurance claim!)

Note the colour of the Water - this is little bay is just inside
from Blackfish Sound

Luckily, we found a great spot around the corner from Farewell which was still close enough for Mike to get out Fishing and afforded us some privacy from the 20+ boats anchored in Farewell.  We spent 2 nights in here and then found a little nook just inside the entrance to Whitepass Passage (I think that's the name :).  We find that when there is kelp, not too many people chance dropping an anchor, but we managed to find a bit of a spot with no kelp (saves on the generator impellers!)

View in the early evening with "Disney Wonder"

We opted to move here after Mike came back to let Betty know that he had seen  a pod of orca, jumping straight out the water all morning....... well that was it, at least in our new spot, I could look out into Blackfish Sound and see any whale activity, that is if the fog wasn't so thick until noon!  It was  a great stop and we would go back to both of these spots again.
